About The Role

Learning Support Assistant (ASD or SEMH) | Ty Trafle School | Swansea | Full-Time | Permanent

Salary: £20,021.63 - £23,049.00 (Term Time) | £26,339.56 - £30,732.00 (Full Year Equivalent)

Would you love to work in a nurturing, therapeutic school where small class sizes mean you can make a real, lasting impact on young people’s lives?

Ty Trafle School is seeking dedicated and passionate Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to join our specialist team. This is a fantastic opportunity to support children with complex needs and become part of a warm, values-led community where every child is supported to thrive.

Ty Trafle School is a specialist provision in Swansea, supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom require a Trauma Informed approach. Based on your experience and interests, you are welcome to express a preference for the pathway you feel most connected to — ASD or SEMH.

With small class groups, a therapeutic environment, and a highly supportive multi-disciplinary team, Ty Trafle provides a setting where both pupils and staff are able to grow, learn, and achieve.

Your Role as a Learning Support Assistant

• Support teaching staff with planning, delivering, and assessing meaningful learning activities.
• Provide personalised support to pupils with ASD or SEMH needs, in both small group and 1:1 contexts.
• Build nurturing, trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
• Support daily routines, including personal care where needed, and take part in off-site enrichment activities.
• Promote emotional regulation, independence, and positive behaviour using creative, therapeutic approaches.
• Contribute to creating a safe, consistent, and inclusive learning environment.

What We’re Looking For

• Caring, resilient, and enthusiastic individuals with a strong desire to make a difference.
• Experience in ASD, SEMH, or SEN is welcomed but not essential — full training will be provided.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) are valued, and we offer opportunities to gain accredited Supporting Teaching & Learning qualifications.
• Strong communication skills, a calm approach, and willingness to work as part of a supportive team.

In Return, We Offer

• Extensive employee wellbeing support, including Employee Assistance Programme and Wellbeing Champions.
• Blue Light Card access for discounts across thousands of UK retailers.
• Refer-a-Friend bonus – earn up to £1,000!
• Fully funded Level 2 & 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualifications.
• Health Shield Plan (after probation).
• Enhanced maternity/paternity leave (after 12 months’ continuous service).
• Proud JGHR Pledge signatory — paid time off for cancer screening appointments.

This role involves working with children in a regulated activity and requires an Enhanced DBS Check, including a Barred List Check.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

Don’t miss this chance to join a compassionate, forward-thinking school and make a genuine impact on the lives of young people with ASD and SEMH needs.

Apply today — and feel free to indicate whether you have a preference for the ASD or SEMH pathway.
